Quote1 But Constantine, I can see you're not just looking for protection. Why is it... when people like you see something pure and good and beautiful... that you have to kick it down and drag it through the mud? Quote2
Gabriel src

Gabriel Hornblower was a former Demiurgic Archangel of heaven, one of the highest ranked among his siblings and a favorite of God.

At the dawn of time, God created the Demiurgic Archangels responsible for creation: Michael Demiurgos, Samael, and Gabriel, who was given the task of setting patterns in what his brothers made in their Father's design. When the Lilim, the children of Lilith were employed as builders in Heaven, Gabriel told his brother Ibriel, who had had a sexual relation with Lilith, to cast the woman and her spawn out, which prompted two of the Lilim, Mazikeen and Briadach, to kill Ibriel. Gabriel then tried to have the two siblings executed, but Samael stopped him.[1]

While Gabriel did wondrously kind things for humanity in service of God, he also committed atrocities such as slaughtering Sodom and Gomorrah, as well as raping Mary of Nazareth to conceive the Redeemer.[2] His station and status ended when he bedded a demon, as part of a plan hatched by John Constantine after Gabriel refused to help him with his lung cancer.

His purity gone, Gabriel had become a fallen angel, stripped of his wings, and even heart. He attacked Lucifer Morningstar in the void as per heaven's request, and later then killed God in anger for what else happened to him. Lucifer did not reveal to him that Gabriel was in fact his father's murderer, and that heaven wiped his memory, until Metatron, chancellor of heaven kicked him out a second time. After this realization, Gabriel Hornblower dedicated his service against heaven, and in the service of hell.
