The Gargareans are an all-male group of undead ancient Greek warriors, revived by Zeus to serve as male counterparts to the Amazons.[1]

History

New Earth

Among them are the Argonauts Jason, their leader, and Euphemus, the son of the sea god Poseidon. Their king is the specially created wonder warrior Achilles Warkiller. Zeus Allfather calls this new all male race Gargareans and ranks them to be honorable enough to be considered Olympians.

Speaking to his son, the sun god Apollo, Zeus considered that Wonder Woman had many years to change the world, but could not end the war and the hate, realizing that Athena's champion has failed. For Apollo, the fate of the gods could no longer be left in the hands of the Amazons, recognizing that, in his words, changing the world is not a job for women, it is a job for men.[2]

Zeus believed that at this moment only men who died in battle can truly understand the value of peace. The Gargareans were in charge of creating the paradise this world should have been centuries ago. They would slaughter the dictators and dismember the warmongers as a way of bringing harmony to the world. Zeus explains that after this has been done that the Olympians will then join the new race in death at the bottom of the sea. Zeus then informs Jason that he will create a new son for him in his honor: the reborn hero Achilles.[1]

Prime Earth

The history of the Prime Earth Gargareans is unknown, but they are undead warriors like their original counterparts. They reside on an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea and also guard the tomb of Genocide, who was defeated in the past by Wonder Woman.[3]
