Ghast is an immortal demon.

Along with his brothers Abnegazar and Rath, he comprises one third of the family commonly referred to as the Demons Three. The Demons Three ruled the Earth a billion years ago before being banished by beings known as the Timeless Ones. Through the efforts of a sorcerer named Felix Faust, the brothers have come to Earth time and again, but they are almost always foiled by the super-hero team known as the Justice League of America. Ghast is linked to a mystical artifact known as the Red Jar of Calythos. Anyone in possession of the Wheel can summon and control Ghast.

When Abnegazar was killed during the attack of the Great Darkness, Ghast and Rath were the only remaining of the Demons Three.[1] Seeking a third demon, Ghast and Rath found Wotan, stranded in Limbo. They assisted the demon in his plan of stealing the body of a Homo Magi to return to Earth and join them as the third demon.[2] Ghast and Rath were in charge of retrieving the limbs of Zatanna and assemble the body piece by piece, preparing Wotan's comeback. However, their plan was foiled by Spectre and Ghast and Rath were taken to Limbo, where they were left estranged.[3]
