Gold Beetle was a mysterious heroine from the future. She was an inheritor of the heroic legacies of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.
History
Gold Beetle operated outside the timeline and therefore, like her predecessor Booster Gold, her adventures were largely unknown. She was working with the Linear Police when The Unkindness escaped and began rampaging through time and parallel dimensions, even breaching the Linear Police's fortress headquarters at Vanishing Point.[1]
She fled to the 853rd Century, to enlist the aid of the only man who could help her: Black Adam. Unfortunately, by the time she arrived, the Unkindness and her forces had invaded the galaxy, laying waste to all before her. Worst of all, the Seven Deadly Sins had taken over the minds of the galaxy's greatest heroes except for Wonder Woman.
Adam, Wonder Woman and Resurrection Man prepared for a final stand against the former heroes, only for Gold Beetle's ship to materialise from nowhere, crushing the mind-controlled Legionnaires. She emerged from the ship and announced that she knew how to save the universe.[2]
Her plan was to use her “family heirloom” the Blue Beetle Scarab, the last remaining magical artefact in the galaxy. Once activated, she could use it's residual magical energy to track down the ancient wizard who had imbued it with magic centuries before. As science had proven helpless against the Unkindness, she hoped magic might be able to stop her.
Adam activated the Scarab with it's name “Khaji Da”, opening a portal to where the Unkindness had been imprisoned millennia ago. Beetle, Adam, Wonder Woman and Resurrection Man escaped, but Beetle's loyal robot companion Skeets stayed behind to delay the enemy, detonating himself and destroying the Scarab. Gold Beetle was not upset at her friend's destruction as she backed him up daily.
The group arrived in Hell, which was now a barren wasteland as the Unkindness had absorbed it after escaping her prison in the Rock of Eternity. They were met by the Phantom Stranger who led them back to the Tower of Fate, where the few remaining magic users in the Multiverse had gathered. The Quintessence explained that their plan was to allow the Unkindness to destroy reality, and emerge when she was done to remake the universe. Beetle was annoyed at the prospect of another “reboot” of reality, only to realise to her horror that she was fading from existence as the Unkindness devoured her timeline. She disappeared as the Quintessence attempted to save her.[1]
