Synopsis for "The Call to War"
John and Ellie Stewart have a friendly race all over the world. Ellie tries to overtake her brother, only for John to stay ahead of her by several feet. Their race is interrupted by an unexpected visitor. It's Kilowog, under the possession of a Yellow Lantern Ring. John is surprised to see his old friend alive, but his joy turns to shock when Kilowog attacks him and demands that John hand over the Darkstar ring. John attempts to reason with Kilowog, but Kilowog knocks the Stewart siblings out and takes the ring.
12 hours later, John awakens at the Justice League Watchtower, under the care of Hal, Guy, Carol and Shepherd. Ellie had called them after Kilowog's ambush and John is quick to inform them about Kilowog. The Lanterns talk about their plan to go to Thanagar and convince the United Planets ambassadors to take action against Thaaros. To increase their chances for success, Hal has called Jadestone to replace the Lanterns' rings with new rings forged from Earth's power battery. Guy and Shepherd decide to go to Oa and meet up with any remaining Green Lanterns, while Hal and John go to Thanagar.
The Unseeing have already predicted the Green Lanterns of Earth would try to subvert their plans, but Alan Scott is ready to provide a distraction for his friends. For a long time, the Unseeing have craved for the power of the Starheart and Alan is more than happy to give them a demonstration. The Unseeing prove to be tougher than Alan had anticipated, and the elder Green Lantern is forced to escape into the fourth dimension, hoping that he bought enough time for his friends to complete the mission.
Hal, John and Carol talk to the gathered ambassadors of Rann and Thanagar and attempt to warn them about Thaaros' plans to consolidate his power throughout the universe, but Thaaros is already present in Thanagar and wearing the Darkstar ring, as well. The ambassadors had warned him that the Green Lanterns would be coming and order their troops to arrest the Lanterns. During the fight, one of the ambassadors is killed and revealed to be a Durlan. With one of his infiltrators exposed, Thaaros no longer sees the need for subtlety, so he unleashes the power of the Darkstar ring on his enemies.
With the United Planets' forces distracted, Guy and Sheperd infiltrate Oa's Sciencells to free their captured friends. To do that, Guy has an idea. While Sheperd distracts the guards, Guy releases Larfleeze from his cells. While the furious Larfleeze attacks the guards and furiously demands the return of his power battery, Guy and Sheperd work to release their friends.
Back on Thanagar, Thaaros has been driven mad by the Darkstar ring and is killing people left and right, including Durlans who don't want to be held accountable for the actions of their leader. To protect themselves, the Durlans summon Varron, the monster known as Starshroud, so he can kill Thaaros. Starshroud cares not for the fate of Durla but nevertheless kills Thaaros for pleasure. John isn't happy to see that his old enemy is still alive, but Starshroud to torment John once again. Hal and John trap Starshroud in an energy field as a temporary measure.
With Thaaros dead, the Durlans move on to the next phase of their plan, but little do they know, Thaaros still lives and has summon his final weapon against his enemies: Mogo. The living planet has been possessed by the red light of rage and has reached Thanagar to destroy Thaaros' enemies.
