John Stewart observes the varied creatures of Oa, describing his relationship to them and their quirks. He has created a road linking each of the Mosaic's cities, and protects the planet's citizens from themselves and each other.

Still, John is tormented by the spirit of the Old-timer and another spirit who possessed him when he entered the flawed Central Power Battery of Oa. Even so, he has accepted the responsibility of being protector of the Mosaic.
