Green Lantern: Mosaic #11 is an issue of the series Green Lantern: Mosaic (Volume 1) with a cover date of April, 1993.
Synopsis for "I Am Myself Mosaic"
John Stewart awakens in his childhood house in Detroit. He is in his Green Lantern costume, but his family and everyone else sees him as a child. One by one, he encounters figures from his past, but, being an adult now, he sees them in a whole different light. His father repeats his speech about how John needs to learn to take his place in the "White Man's World." John then meets his sick mother, who says that her cancer was part of "God's plan." John questions why his "plan" always meant such pain, but instead of getting an answer, John's father rushes him to go to school.
On his way to school, John walks with his childhood friends, who talk about a baseball game. However, John's mind wanders away, contemplating the architecture of his neighborhood. The kids continue their way and leave John behind.
Instead of going to school, John takes a detour and goes to his grandma Addie's place. John questions her why she keeps mourning Grandpa Roy after all the hurt he caused her. Again, John hears the speech about how God allows them to suffer for a higher purpose. Suddenly, Grandpa Roy walks in with a knife stabbed in his chest. John asks him why "that lady" stabbed him, to which he replies "I guess she just loved me too much." The answer doesn't make any sense for him, and John lashes out, complaining about how everybody told him that same story ever since he was a kid. Roy takes John to the city to show him what truly happened: instead of a woman stabbing him, it was a gang of thugs.
John then approaches a tree, and he finds Green Lantern (Ch'p). Ch'p invites him to climb to his tree and gives him a nut, which John can't open. John asks Ch'p for forgiveness for letting him die and explains that Sinestro possessed him and made him show his evil side. Ch'p laughs and replies that Sinestro wouldn't have been inside his head if John didn't let him in. Ch'p then takes him to the highest point on the tree and says the "something red" he saw the night he died wasn't Sinestro, but that John still has "something red" inside him. Ch'p puts his hand inside John's chest and takes his red-glowing heart out.
Suddenly, "Old Timer" shows up and takes his heart. Appa invites John to follow him into a stairway headed toward space, leaving Ch'p behind. At the end of the stairway, they reach a floating structure, and John recognizes the architecture from Katma Tui's world. He opens the door, and a surge of red, hot energy starts to come out, burning him. Appa tells him to let go of his fear of "the red," but the pain becomes unbearable for John, and he screams frightened.
Suddenly, he wakes up in his pad on Oa and recovers from the strange experience. The image of Ch'p appears and, before fading away, says to John:
- "Your head has been touched. You must keep walking. But you have to open your door, John. That's the nut you have to crack"
- —Ch'p
