Green Lantern Annual (Volume 3) with a cover date of October, 1997.
Synopsis for "Worlds Within Worlds"
Kyle Rayner goes to an auction and buys a painting by Sebastian Beale. Back at his apartment, Kyle hangs the artwork and shows it to Jade, who is not impressed by it. Kyle then takes a closer look at the details, but suddenly he finds himself inside the painting, and the characters and creatures around him become alive.
In this fantasy world, Kyle encounters a procession escaping from an erupting volcano. He turns to Green Lantern, but his ring gives him simple armor instead of the usual suit. Kyle saves the woman Saria Amenthis and her bodyguards from the lava, and Saria asks for Green Lantern's help for their journey. She explains the land is suffering, and they need to go to the God-Mage's palace to save their world, Najida. Although still unsure about how real this world is, Kyle joins their journey.
After what feels like months, the group journeys through the lands of Najida while they see the world erasing itself. They reach the God-Mage's castle and rush in to save themselves from being erased. At the inner chamber, Kyle realizes that the "God-Mage" is none other than Sebastian Beale, the artist of the painting. Sebastian explains that he created that world and somehow made it real. Since nobody wanted the painting, Sebastian remained in Najida and kept it safe for years. Now he is old and seems to be "dimming" along with his creation. Suddenly, the whole room turns white around them, and Saria and her group are erased. Kyle uses what's left of his ring to imagine the world back to reality, and Sebastian helps him by joining their willpower and imagination. With Najida restored, Sebastian also recovers the power to send Kyle back to the real world.
He kisses Saria goodbye and returns to his apartment as if he never disappeared. Jade notices the painting is different, now full of life and with a Green Lantern symbol in the background, and asks Kyle for an explanation.
