Synopsis for "Vega"

Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner reach the end of their trip to the Vega system. Before entering, Guy asks if Kyle is really willing to go into the system, saying that he could get kicked out of the Corps for this. Kyle is ready and willing. However, he's concerned that it may be all for nothing, as Soranik Natu's last distress signal was some time ago.

In a dark place, Isamot Kol and Vath Sarn are fighting it out with spiders. However, the Spiders are all around them, and they're hopelessly outnumbered. Fortunately, the two rookies get back up in the form of Kilowog.

Reaching the planet that Soranik is on, Kyle and Guy discover that it's a organic waste processing station. They find Soranik Natu, strung up between two polls. As Kyle cuts her down, Guy downs one of the works, but his ring doesn't have any of the Vegan languages stored within their database. Kyle is very concerned, as he can't find a pulse on Soranik, and her ring is missing. Suddenly, green light springs from her mouth and eyes, and she begans coughing until she regurgitates her ring. Their presence has not gone unnoticed, however, and one of the workers moves off to tell a group of bounty hunters that two Green Lanterns are present.

In the spider den, Kilowog, Isamot, and Vath are having no luck finding an exit, so they decide to make their own. Blasting their way out, they find themselves also in the Vega system—outside of the Spider Guild's nest. Kilowog decides that they need more information, so they back to the nest to figure out what is going on.

After she's caught her breath, Soranik explains that on her return trip to Korugar, she became interested in how her predeccessor died, as death rites are sacred to Korugarans. Heading to Tarkus Whin's laste known location, she was sucked into the black hole. Alone and in the dark, she swallowed her ring and and ordered it to slow her bodily functions to the point that she would appear dead. Guy comments on the riskiness of what she did, but Soranik new she would live. She's a doctor who saves lives, but notes that if she can't, she can honor their passing, and uses her ring to build Tarkus Whin a funeral pyre, creamating him. Kyle tells Soranik that if she wants to honor Tarkus Whin, she should keep the ring and joing the Corps. Guy decides that Kyle was right about her being more afraid than angry, and Soranik decides that she will join the Green Lantern Corps, using her ring to contrusct a uniform. As the three leave the planet, they are attacked by the bounty hunters. During the exchange, one of the hunters declares himself Bolphunga the Unrelenting, while Kyle recognizes another hunter—his old enemy Fatality. She also recognizes Rayner, and becomes more interested in his head than his bounty. As the Lanterns try to evade their attackers, they receive a message from Kilowog over their rings directed to Isamot and Vath. They're able to zero in on his point of origin...the Spider Guild's nest.
