"What Price Honor?": The new Green Lantern recruit, Laira Omoto, receives a mission from the Guardians, which will be her "baptism by fire." The Guardians send Laira to her home planet Jayd, where she finds her former city

Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #6 is an issue of the series Green Lantern Corps Quarterly (Volume 1) with a cover date of September, 1993.

Synopsis for "What Price Honor?"

The new Green Lantern recruit, Laira Omoto, receives a mission from the Guardians, which will be her "baptism by fire." The Guardians send Laira to her home planet Jayd, where she finds her former city in ruins. Laira learns that the man responsible for the destruction calls himself the Golden Dragon, and she follows his tracks to a castle.

After fighting some guards, Laira comes face to face with the Golden Dragon. Laira's power ring is useless against his yellow armor, so she resorts to hand-to-hand combat. After landing a kick in the face, Laira discovers the true identity of the Golden Dragon: Kentor Omoto, her father and previous Green Lantern.

Kentor explains that before leaving the Green Lantern Corps, Jayd's council transformed his planet with "progressive" laws, which turned his home into a "demoralized, lewd" place. Attempting to restore honor to Jayd, Kentor interfered with the council's decisions, but the Guardians stripped him from his ring for political interference. The councilors then banished him, but Kentor formed a cult that worshipped him.

Putting their family bonds aside, Laira fights her father, vowing to end any oppression in her sector. Overpowered by her father's skills, Laira uses Kentor's sword and stabs his chest. Kentor asks her to finish him, but Laira throws the sword and walks away, forcing Kentor to end his life himself.

Laira questions the Guardians why they didn't tell her the truth of her mission, and they reply that they needed to test her loyalty and if she could overcome her fears. The Guardians then ask her if she wants to relocate to another sector, but she rejects the offer, saying she's needed there.

Synopsis for "Those Who Sit and Wait"

Sheriff Mardin, the Green Lantern of planet Nyberg, investigates a Zaza beast taking cattle from the farmers. Getting easily airsick, Mardin rarely uses her ring, but the current circumstances justify it. Mardin trails the Zaza to the mountains and saves a girl from the predator. Instead of killing the Zaza, Mardin traps it and takes the animal to an unpopulated area, where it won't bother the farmers, and the civilization won't bother the Zaza.

Mardin returns to her town to resume her sheriff work while keeping her composure from airsickness.
