Green Lantern Corps #209 is an issue of the series Green Lantern Corps (Volume 1) with a cover date of February, 1987.
Synopsis for "Red Alert!"
Lifting the super-hero ban, President Reagan welcomes the Green Lanterns back in America. He learned about Kilowog, Katma Tui, and John Stewart "defecting" to the Soviet Union, so the president asks the remaining Lanterns if they'll defend the United States if the Soviets attack. The Green Lanterns claim that they are individuals, and they are here to protect the Earth, not just a country.
Meanwhile, General Secretary Gorbachev welcomes the Green Lanterns that joined Kilowog. However, John and Katma don't feel welcome, and they disagree with Gorbachev about both countries' political views. After they walk out, Gorbachev claims they pose a threat and commands the Rocket Red Brigade to liquidate John and Katma. Outside, the argument continues between John and Kilowog, which shortly turns into a fight. Katma splits them up, and Kilowog leaves with Josef.
Later that night, John and Katma get attacked and beaten by the Rocket Red Brigade, who take the Green Lanterns to custody, without letting Kilowog or Josef know about it.
Back in Los Angeles, Hal Jordan's group returns to the Citadel, where they find Guy Gardner waiting for them. Guy wants to assume command of the Corps and lead them on an attack against the Soviets. Hal snaps at him when Guy starts to flirt with Arisia, but Kari Limbo arrives at the scene, trying to bring sense to her former lover. Still, Guy is too hot-headed to remember the love he had toward Kari. She tries to stop him from attacking Russia, and Guy fakes a change of mind. After leaving the coast, Guy heads straight to the Soviet Union.
Kilowog and Josef train with the new Rocket Red Armor, and they try to find John and Katma to reconcile. Gorbachev avoids answering Kilowog's questions, and even when his ring locates them near the Kranotov Institue, the General Secretary claims that that is a restricted area. Josef sees through Gorbachev's lies, but he plays along. Suddenly, Gorbachev answers the red phone, informing him of Guy Gardner's trespassing and attacking Soviet air space, and both countries go quickly from Orange to Red Alert.
