"The Ultimate Testament!": After the Green Lantern Corps executed Sinestro, the Central Power Battery of Oa is decaying, reclaiming the energy from the power rings. Flodo Span

Green Lantern Corps #224 is an issue of the series Green Lantern Corps (Volume 1) with a cover date of May, 1988.

Synopsis for "The Ultimate Testament!"

After the Green Lantern Corps executed Sinestro, the Central Power Battery of Oa is decaying, reclaiming the energy from the power rings. Flodo Span helps Hal Jordan pass through dimensional barriers using his gaseous state to find the Guardians. Flodo dies after Hal reaches the Guardians’ dimension. The Guardians tell Hal that the power battery will explode after siphoning all the green energy, transforming Oa into a black hole. They give him their power to fulfill this “last mission”, and tell him to get inside the power battery and confront what lies at its core. Hal returns to Oa and enters the power battery.

K’ryssma loses her ring and returns to her original form. After realizing time is short, Appa Ali Apsa follows Hal Jordan inside the power battery. The battery’s defenses attack Hal Jordan, but he manages to get past them and reach the core, finding the yellow impurity. But Hal also finds Sinestro, whose soul, instead of dying, was transferred inside the Power Battery. The renegade turns into a yellow giant and starts draining Hal Jordan’s green energy. Appa arrives, with his Guardian powers restored by the Power Battery, and then restores Hal’s power. He releases the yellow impurity that was fixing the green energy’s form and Sinestro loses control of the battery. Appa contains the little remainings of the yellow impurity and the power battery’s cataclysm is stopped, with a small measure of green power remaining.

Hal creates a prison for the escapees using Oa’s landscape. The Power Battery still stands, no longer able of generating new rings, but still with enough green energy to sustain the remaining power rings. Appa Ali Apsa decides to stay in Oa as caretaker of the battery, and the rest of the corps are taken to their homes. Katma, Arisia, and Kilowog decide to return to Earth, but Salakk chooses to visit Ch'p, who remains as one of the few active Green Lanterns.
