Quote1 Oh, they trusted us! They trusted that we'd want to use these rings if we knew about them... at the expense of our lives! They trusted that we'd put guarding others above our own well-being! That they'd recruited the noblest in the universe... to be... Green Lanterns! Quote2

Green Lantern (Volume 2) #168 is an issue of the series Green Lantern (Volume 2) with a cover date of September, 1983.

Synopsis for "A Ring Of Endless Might"

Hal Jordan gets to the planet of D'xe, where the Green Lantern Kaylark, seduced by an improved Power Ring, put herself in charge as Empress Surrenda. Her soldiers encounter Hal while ransacking the houses of the inhabitants, then they subdue the Green Lantern and take him to the yellow fortress of the Empress.

In Surrenda's throne room, the Free Lancers arrive to confront Kaylark and demand her to give them the improved Power Ring she stole. Chance reminds her of their deal, but Surrenda, seduced by power, won't negotiate with pirates. The Empress overpowers them and sends them to the dungeon.

The soldiers scouting Hal arrive at the fortress, and they clash. Overpowered by her improved Power Ring at first, Hal manages to nullify her green energy and beat her. Hal recalls how both Eddore and Galius Zed where defeated by their own fears, powered by the new rings. Hal proceeds and makes her see her past and feel the fear of being unloved and unrecognized. Suddenly, the Free Lancers, who escaped by picking the lock of their jail, attack Hal Jordan with Chance's "secret weapon": a gun that can pull out the energy of Green Lantern's ring. However, that doesn't stop Hal to beat them in hand-to-hand combat. Hal retrieves Kaylark's ring and, with its yellow-proof power, destroys the whole fortress after evacuating everyone.

Later, in Green Lantern's Cruiser, Hal heads to Oa to hear the Guardians' decision about the new rings and his exile. Dorine starts to feel jealous about how Hal thinks of everyone he must protect, everyone but her.
