Green Lantern (Volume 2) #169 is an issue of the series Green Lantern (Volume 2) with a cover date of October, 1983.
Synopsis for "Off On A Tanjent!"
After Hal Jordan's mental battle against Myrwhydden, the Guardians of the Universe put Jordan through a test, where some Green Lanterns acted as traitors who revolted against the Guardians. Krista X, who was previously saved by Hal, severely questions the Guardians' methods, and one of them proceeds and tells a tale about another Green Lantern.
- Young Symon Terrynce, of the planet Tanjent, gets shunned after his mental powers fail to reach the expectations. Disappointed by his failure, his own father exiles Symon to the moon, where he strives alone, using his powers to survive. Soon, the Guardians notice his potential and recruit him as a Green Lantern. Right after he says his oath for the first time, Symon gets the task of protecting his planet from some invaders. His people are already attacking the fleet, so Symon interferes and stops their attacks. Using his mental powers, boosted by his ring, he succeeds in connecting to Tanjent's hive mind, and he's shocked to find out that the magistrate is a clone of himself, made from a sample of his skin after his exile. Distraught by the further betrayal of his parents, Symon decides to leave the planet alone and let the invasion continue. But a Guardian's projection appears and stops him, saying that if he abandons them, he'll make a bigger mistake than them. Symon returns to the battlefield and brings the invaders' ships to the planet, forcing Tanjent's forces to stop the attacks. From the ship, some exiles from Tanjent walk out, saying that they discovered an alien observation point getting ready for an invasion. The exiles stopped the threat and used their ship to return to their home in Tanjent. Symon takes his side, saying that they all deserve to be home after defending their planet, and he reveals his face to the magistrate. After recognizing that they weren't treated as they deserved, the magistrate accepts them all back, not only as friends, but as brothers.
After the Guardians finish the tale, they command all present Green Lanterns to leave Hal Jordan alone to rest. As she walks away, Krista still doubts about her masters' methods.

Synopsis for "Sun-Fall!"
The people of Zyntha are using Lysandra Power Battery to channel their will and move their planet from its orbit before the sun goes supernova. However, Spol, a Green Lantern of the same planet as the one who passed his ring to Lysandra before dying. He explains that he must stop the planet from moving out of orbit, because the sun is actually a living being about to give birth, and a change in the balance would prove to be fatal to the process. So Lysandra rushes and takes the battery away from her people, and Spol puts the planet in the correct orbit again. The confused inhabitants of Zyntha ask Lysandra why has she doomed them, but then they look to the stars, something that was forbidden for centuries, and they see the miracle of birth, as they now have two suns.
The new sun starts a new era for the people of Zyntha, because now the warm temperature causes the snow to thaw. Before leaving, Spol explains to Lysandra that Thar, the deity they worship, is in fact the sun.
