Synopsis for "It's a Dirty Job, But...!"

Hal Jordan, now powerless, visits the grave where he buried Abin Sur when he met him. Hal feels he failed Abin Sur's faith, but still thinks it's he did the right thing to stay with the woman he loves. From Oa, the Guardians watch Hal's movements, and realize that his decision of leaving the Corps is final. Thus they see it's time to name his successor to pass his ring.

Back on Earth, Carol tries to cheer up April, who still feels worried for her fiance's condition. At Ferris Aircraft, John Stewart makes progress on the reconstruction plans of the complex, and he meets Ferris' new Executive Administrator: Mr. Smith. Carol encounters Bruce Gordon, who still receives menacing notes from a mysterious person who wants to sabotage his solar-powered jet experiments. With Bloch dead, Gordon starts to worry about Eclipso being back to haunt him.

Meanwhile, Major Disaster comes to Los Angeles looking for Green Lantern. To lure his enemy, Major Disaster invades and takes over the dam outside of the city, and the news channels arrive shortly to cover the events.

Hal and John are having some drinks in a bar, when John can't help to feel he knows Hal from somewhere else (John still doesn't know that Hal was Green Lantern). Hal gets saved by the TV, which is showing the news report of Major Disaster's attack at the dam. John stands up and leaves the bar in a hurry, while Hal looks for a telephone to call any of his superhero friends. When he walks out to the back of the bar, Hal is shocked to find John Stewart donning the Green Lantern uniform and charging his ring while reciting his oath.

John takes off and heads to the dam, where he confronts Major Disaster. However, the villain doesn't recognize him as the Green Lantern he knows, and he starts demanding for the "real" Green Lantern to show up, otherwise he'll destroy the dam.

Synopsis for "I, Lantern"

In the planet Grenda, the inhabitants pay their respects to the fallen Green Lantern Stel. However, Yron, a fellow Grendan, is unhappy that a "failure" like Stel was chosen to be Green Lantern instead of him. As he prattles about how he would be the perfect Lanter, the Krydos invade and attack the planet, planning to exterminate its mechanical inhabitants for being an "affront to the Creator." Suddenly, Stel's successor as Green Lantern arrives to fight the invaders, but Yron forces the alien to take him to Oa. The Green Lantern complies, and Yron confronts the Guardians, who also comply to Yron's wishes and grant him a ring to prove himself.

Now with the power to save his people, Yron returns to his home planet and uses his ring destroy the Krydos' projectiles with a high-pitched sound. But little does he know that he is actually hurting his fellow Grendans, clogging their systems and killing them. Yron countered the weapon only to create a worse one. Then, Yron realizes that he is a failure.
