Synopsis for "In Blackest Day"
While having dinner over the city of Los Angeles, reporter Tawny Young asks Green Lantern (John Stewart) how did he replace the previous Green Lantern. John takes his time to remember how he was abducted to the Guardians' citadel on Oa, and how he declined the ring at first but ultimately accepted after Katma Tui dared him to prove he wasn't a coward like the latest human to wear that ring. After John's walk down memory lane is over, he decides not to tell Tawney his story, angering the reporter, who stands up of the table, throws a dish of pasta to Green Lantern's head, and walks out of the restaurant.
At Ferris Aircraft, the Solar-Powered Jet as almost ready to its test flight. Bruce Gordon receives one last phone call demanding the scientist to give him the jet, and Bruce realizes that the caller is none other than Eclipso. Hal Jordan starts putting the pilot suit, and Rich Davis visits him at the locker room. Moved by envy, Rich slugs Hal with the helmet and takes his place as the pilot, without anyon noticing. When Hal wakes up and alerts them, it's already too late, as Rich is now flying the jet. Gordon demands him to return with the jet, but Rich refuses, saying that this is his last chance to fly due to his heart condition. Seeing no alternative, they have no other choice than carrying on with the test flight.
Rich succeeds in putting the test to all of its capacities when, suddenly, a miniature moon eclipses the sun and creates a wall of black light that engulfs Rich's jet. Losing all communications with Ferris. Rich lands in a lab, where he is received by his captor, Eclipso.

Synopsis for "Burdens"
The Green Lantern Gion of Feron has become the virtual ruler of his planet during his long time of servitude, helping people on trivial stuff in his early years but eventually taking part in more influential matters, like dictating the laws and setting the example for his people. Now, as he makes a speech to announce his retirement, the people of Feron is expectant of who will he choose as his successor. However, he leaves without choosing anyone, and chaos breaks loose on the population, who are desperate for a new leader. Gion returns to his home with his wife, Miranda, hoping that Feron will one day reach order and unity again without him.
