Synopsis for "Of Super-Human Bondage"

When Hal Jordan refuses to help Evil Star get his powers back, Evil Star traps him within a yellow bell-jar of stellar energy. With Hal trapped, he captures children and threatens to drown them in the sea unless Hal cooperates. Reluctantly, Hal agrees, and Evil Star pokes a hole through the bell-jar. Hal uses the hole to send out a beam which frees the children from the hands of the Starlings. Angrily, Evil Star seals the bell-jar again, but Hal's beam continues, and blasts him from behind.

Freed from the bell-jar, Hal saves the children, and attacks Evil Star. However, when he tries to remove the star-band - the source of Evil Star's powers - it's not there, and Hal realizes that Evil Star has internalized his power somehow. Evil Star gives Hal one last blast, and then escapes, leaving Hal no option but to take the children home and then plan his hunt.

When Hal returns to his hotel, Carol Ferris is concerned for him, and eventually decides that the emotional toll of being in a relationship with a Green Lantern is too great, and they can only be friends. Hal is disappointed, and tries to hurt Carol's feelings by revealing that he already has a relationship of sorts with Rose Hardin, who is living on Oa. He storms off, and works on his pitch for a loan so that he can start his business.

The next morning, Hal fails to get the loan, because he has no credit history to speak of. Outside, he meets Carol, who has obviously followed him to support him. He disappointingly returns home, while Carol goes to the financing office to see what she can do for him. Hal suddenly remembers that he needs to charge his Green Lantern Ring, but as he prepares to do so, the Starlings steal his Power Battery, and Hal is left powerless.
