You were the best of those who wielded the ring, Hal Jordan. But no longer. The ring... the power... cannot be yours.
- — Ganthet
Green Lantern (Volume 3) #64 is an issue of the series Green Lantern (Volume 3) with a cover date of July, 1995.
Synopsis for "Parallax View: The Resurrection of Hal Jordan, Part 2"
The last of the Guardians of the Universe, Ganthet, confronts Hal Jordan, as Parallax. The Guardian tries to get Parallax to stop, but both know that Ganthet is not powerful enough to stop him. However, Ganthet brought reinforcements: all the heroes who were once Hal's friends.
Green Lantern recovers enough energy to punch Hal in the face, and the other heroes rally against Hal, but Hal blasts them away. One by one, they try to reason with him, but Hal defends himself claiming to still be a hero, one who's doing things differently than before. In between punches and blasts, Hal tells J'onn that he of all people should understand the things that Hal's been going through, considering that J'onn lost his entire world. Ganthet watches the battle go down poorly, and he vanishes, looking for another hero to join the fight.
Green Arrow strikes Hal directly with his bow, getting close enough to try and reason with his best friend, for old times' sake. But Parallax counters him, questioning his loyalty for taking their side against him. Then Flash goes after Parallax and corners him to a wall, telling him that he always thought of him as his uncle. Wally also urges Hal to help him understand what happened to him after Coast City was destroyed. But Hal just strikes back at him, telling him that he's proud that Wally has become as much a hero as Barry was, but for his own good, Hal's actions are necessary.
The fights falls down on Kyle alone to face Hal again. Hal knocks Kyle out, allowing him to finally take the last Green Lantern Ring in existence, and reclaim his life. But Ganthet returns with a new player: Superman, who, instead of attacking, just asks Hal to talk this through. But Hal's not interested in talking, so they fight it out. Hal reminds Superman that he was at Coast City as well with him when it was obliterated, causing the deaths of seven million people. Hal claims that, from now on, he'll stop anything like from happening again. Hal stands alone again as he incapacitates Superman, with only Ganthet remaining.
Ganthet berates Hal for his actions, saying that, in his quest to set things right, he only caused death and destruction, to the point of fighting those he considered friends. Ganthet reminds him that he was once the greatest of the Green Lanterns, but the power is no longer his anymore. Hal counters by telling Ganthet that he is tired of listening to the Guardians, and that it's their fault that he is like this now. Despite all that, Hal still needs the remaining power Ganthet holds. Ganthet tells him that he can give him that power, but it shouldn't come to that point.
Just as Hal is about to take Ganthet's power, Kyle, although powerless and bleeding, strikes Hal from behind with a pipe. Unscathed, Hal sees that Kyle is determined to stand against him even though he has no chance of winning, since that's what heroes do. Hal then realizes that he can't go back to the way things were, and that the ring doesn't belong to him anymore. Hal hands it back to Kyle, who drops the pipe. Ganthet then gives Hal the power that he desires, and Hal takes it, then flies away and disappears.
With the battle over, the other heroes talk with Kyle, who asks himself if he actually deserves to be Green Lantern. Superman tells him that, from what he's seen, Hal placed the ring in good hands, and that now, more than ever, he is Green Lantern.
Elsewhere in the universe, Hal sits alone, dreaming about his golden years keeping Coast City safe.
