Synopsis for "Man & Machine"

Kyle Rayner goes through some stuff from his childhood at his mother's house as Donna comes in to fetch him for dinner. She also warns Kyle that the boyfriend of his mother Maura Rayner will join the dinner as well. Actually, they will drive to S.T.A.R. Labs together to pick up Dr. James Hollins. Now Kyle remembers that he saved Dr. Hollins from the fire just before he and Donna went on to visit his mother.

As they arrive at S.T.A.R. Labs, all lights in the building are out which is why Kyle changes into Green Lantern to take a look at the situation. He quickly finds Hollins badly wounded and then he gets attacked by a big machine calling itself the Machine Messiah. Carrying Hollins, Kyle leaves the building just in time before it explodes. But the machine follows him and now Kyle also has to look out for the safety of Donna and his mother. Of course, Maura is also deeply worried about her son and Donna tries to convince her that Kyle is able to take care of himself and that he has matured well since becoming Green Lantern. Kyle's fight with the machine takes quite a while because the Machine Messiah is able to anticipate all his moves. At last, Green Lantern defeats the machine by letting his imagination work and creating random constructs, attacking it without any thought or strategy - the only thing the machine could not foresee or calculate.

A little later, all are back at Maura's house. The relationship between Kyle and his mother can only get better now because recent events finally convinced Maura that her son is no longer an irresponsible little boy. Suddenly the phone rings - its a call for Donna. And it's certainly bad news, because she immediately starts to cry and hugs Kyle.
