Synopsis for "Fanning the Fires"

Riots break out across the city as controversial talking heads Cyrus Bramlett and Austin Phipps pollute the airways with racially charged rhetoric. Green Lantern and Green Arrow try to maintain control, but they are heavily outnumbered by an angry mob. To complicate issues, armored men on hover crafts begin flying across the danger zones inciting tension even further by causing widespread property damage. Green Lantern disarms one of the men and Connor recognizes their ordnance as the type of weaponry that his stepfather Milo Armitage deals in. From the shadows of a nearby alleyway, Nicholas Kotero watches the spectacle with glee.

Meanwhile, Miss Kelly of WGBS brokers a deal with two networks who agree to publicly air a live debate between Bramlett and Phipps in Central Park. Kelly isn't concerned about the potential threat of violence, but only seeks to further her own career.

Some time later, Kyle and Connor change into civilian attire and stop at Radu's coffee shop. Connor meets Radu, as well as Kyle's roommate Jenny. Master Jansen comes in and tells Connor about a strange videotape that he came across. The videotape contains recorded speeches of Bramlett and Phipps, but Master Jansen feels there is something wrong with the video. Kyle has his neighbor Nate, a video specialist, analyze the tape. After researching the data at length, he discovers that the images of Bramlett and Phipps are actually digitally altered composites of Nicholas Kotero. Bramlett and Phipps do not actually exist. Kotero manufactured these characters and recorded his own voice (mixed to sound like two separate people) in order to perpetuate a race war.
