Synopsis for "Secret Origin Book 3"

After saving a pilot, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) returns to Abin Sur's corpse and gives him a proper burial. After finding his new Power Battery, Jordan is transported to Oa, where he sent to Kilowog's training camp. Kilowog and Hal Jordan engage in a physical fight until they are interrupted by Tomar-Re. During a discussion, Jordan informs Tomar-Re that Abin Sur died when his ship crashed. After much training with Kilowog, Hal Jordan earns his badge as Green Lantern. Meanwhile, Ganthet sends Sinestro to Earth in order to investigate the circumstances of Abin Sur's demise.

• Abin Sur's obsession with the Blackest Night prophecy references an encounter he had back in Tales of the Green Lantern Corps #2. Inside the Book of Oa, illustrations of the Blackest Night prophecy are comic panels taken directly from the original story.
• The young Hal Jordan insists that he will someday beat the yellow impurity while he's still a rookie. Actually, years later, the yellow impurity will be revealed to be an entity named Parallax imprisoned in the Central Power Battery. Hal Jordan will finally beat it during Green Lantern: Rebirth.
