The Bureau of Sovereignty, led by Amanda Waller, has imprisoned Hal within their prison at the island nation of Gamorra. Hal has been locked inside a series of Tasharian bonds, an device that restrains his limbs and causes him severe pain should he attempt to escape, while Waller and Karshon oversee his interrogation. Although Karshon punches and beats Hal as severely as possible, Hal refuses to give up hope. Now that Carol has admitted his love for him, Hal feels more determined than ever.

Hal has also deduced that the alien technology at Waller's disposal was provided by Thaaros and Waller admits that both she and Thaaros are interested in Hal's new ring. For now, the United Planets has agreed to leave Earth alone, but Waller suspects that, sooner or later, the U.P. will attack them and Waller will do whatever it takes to protect her home, even if that means betraying the superheroes that have repeatedly saved the universe.

Back on Oa, Jessica Cruz has returned to the Green Lantern resistance's hideout to see if her friends are safe. She informs them that Hal has disappeared by Jo Mullein and Simon Baz have been captured. Salaak suggests moving deeper into Oa's core to avoid capture, but Jessica fears that might not be enough, as Thaaros has replaced multiple ambassadors for the U.P. with Durlans. Meanwhile, Kyle has felt multiple disturbances in the emotional spectrum.

Sinestro, having escaped from Earth, has returned to New Korugar, only to find one of its cities in ruins and his people nowhere to be found. Sinestro's desire to create fear has been replaced with burning rage and he promises to take revenge on those who have wronged him.

At Battery Park, the Justice Society of America finds itself under attack by Waller's robots, who already stolen some of the members' powers. Alan Scott uses his connection to the Starheart to take back some of the energy taken by Jadestone, one of Waller's robots, and create a distraction so that his friends can escape.

At Las Vegas, Nathan, Carol's former fiance, is heartbroken that Carol left him. All his life, he has done his best to follow the rules and be a good person, then he would find love, but every time, the rule breakers would always get ahead him. A mysterious grey ring finds him the only thing Nathan can feel is sorrow.

Back on Oa, Thaaros has returned to stare at the Source Lantern yet again. This time, he feels more confident than ever that his plans to impose order on the universe will become true, as he wields a ring and walks into the power emanating from the Lantern.

At Gamorra, Karshon continues to torture Hal but Hal pretends to fall unconscious and when Karshon lets his guard down, Hal knocks him out and escapes from his restraints. As he explores the facility and tries to find a way to escape, Hal comes across of group of soldiers transporting the multiple weapons the Bureau had confiscated from the superhero community, Hal's ring included. For Hal, this has become more than just an opportunity to escape.

Synopsis for "The Patient Blade"

Back when he was a 10-year-old, Thaaros learned a harsh lesson about life. His home, planet Durla, endured a terrible civil war and Thaaros' father, a member of the ruling class, was on the losing side. He died and another Durlan, Grund, took his shape to invade his home and harshly beat Thaaros, all the while telling him that he would teach him two lessons. First, trust no one and the second; if he tried to take revenge, Grund would kill Thaaros the same way he killed his father.

Years later, Thaaros attempted to avenge his father, but Grund easily beat Thaaros in combat and Thaaros barely escaped. It was only when Thaaros became Premier of the United Planets that his revenge was completed. As leader of the most powerful nation in the universe, he can take pleasure in punishing those who would break his laws. One of the criminals is a man who attempted to bypass a blockade held by the Green Lantern Corps. He also happens to be Grund, the man who killed Thaaros' father.

Although Grund fakes ignorance, Thaaros has become much smarter than he was back in his youth, so he gives Grund a choice: endure a slow, painful death at the hands of a Psion doctor or commit suicide with the same knife he killed his father with. Scared, Grund chooses the latter and Thaaros orders D'Proba, the Green Lantern that brought Grund to him, to dispose of the body and to have the knife cleaned and brought to Thaaros' room, for it reminds Thaaros of his youth.
