Synopsis for "Civil Corps Part III: Valley of Dying Stars"
Thaaros, still possessing the Dark Star ring, has ordered his United Planets Lanterns to descend upon Oa and destroy what's left of the Green Lantern Corps. Hal assembles whatever Green Lanterns are left for a final stand. Even Sinestro, still holding a Red Lantern ring, agrees to join Hal's side. Despite their lack of experience, the UP Lanterns are numerically superior to the Green Lanterns and will soon get past their defenses.
At the Source Lantern, Varron has discovered the reason as to why the emotional spectrum has been unstable lately: the Guardians of Oa had been absorbing emotional energy to heal themselves. Now, Varron wants that power for himself alone, but Kyle, having become the White Lantern again, stands in his way.
Kilowog, brainwashed by Thaaros through the yellow light of fear, continues his attack on Jessica, who begs Kilowog to break free from Thaaros' control. It is through Jessica's words and an impressive display of willpower that Kilowog reasserts control over himself and remembers what happened to him back on New Korugar. He had been caught in the Yellow Lantern Battery's explosion, but the yellow light of fear protected him. He was later found by UP Lanterns and taken to Thaaros, who brainwashed him. Glad that his friend is safe, Jessica invites Kilowog to join the fight.
Hal and his friends engage Thaaros directly, and the Source Lantern breaks open. Varron, empowered by the Source Lantern, has defeated Kyle and has put his uncle in his hitlist. As the two power-hungry monsters fight each other, emotional energy begins enveloping the battlefield and a huge portal opens in the skies of Oa. A series of tentacles emerges from the portal and Shepard explains that Thaaros is trying to summon the Old Gods, like Olgrun, into their universe. He suggests the Green Lanterns retreat and regroup, but Hal refuses, for he believes this is the best chance they have at stopping Thaaros and whatever mad scheme he has come up with. He leads the assembled Lanterns into a combined assault against the mutated Durlans, who agree to put their grievances aside just to defeat their common enemies.
Kilowog and Jessica arrive at the battlefield and bring much-needed support to the Green Lanterns, who push Thaaros and Varron in the portal, just in time for Kyle to close it and leave Thaaros and Varron trapped in the realm of the Old Gods. The battle is over, and though the Green Lanterns are victorious, theirs is not a clean victory. Although the Guardians have returned and Keli has awakened, Kyle warns his friends that the emotional spectrum has become wild and unpredictable. Mysterious new colors have emerged from this conflict and those who can use these new colors are the "Fractal Lanterns". The universe will descend into chaos, but Hal believes the Green Lanterns are more than ready to bring order and justice.
Meanwhile, Carol is locked in a battle against her most personal enemy, the Predator. For countless eons, the Predator has corrupted and threatened Star Sapphires like Carol and wants to bond with Carol, for that it is how the Predator interprets love to be. Carol, however, cares not for the Predator's warped obsession. As her ring burns with violet energy, she tells the Predator that true love comes not from obsession nor attachment, but from kindness and respect. True love is a power that gives, nto a parasite that takes. It is through that love Carol banishes the Predator and starts to feel whole again. Now, the time has come for Carol to start over.
On another part of the universe, Nathan Broome, still possessing the ring of sorrow, visits a mysterious palace, only to be greeted by Starbreaker. Nathan is still broken by Carol's departure, but Starbreaker believes he can help Nathan stop feeling sorry for himself. In fact, he plans to have everyone in the universe stop feeling forever.
