Synopsis for "A Betting Man..."

Green Arrow has infiltrated a corporate building in Star City to investigate the occupants' corrupt activities. Apparently, the local big corporation has bought real estate over a particular section of the city and forced families that have lived there for generations to move somewhere else. Just as he finds incriminating evidence, Green Arrow is attacked by armed goons but, luckily, Hal arrives just in time to save him. Together, the heroes in green stop the mercenaries from torching the building and destroying the evidence.

Later, Hal and Ollie go to a bar and share a few drinks. Hal informs that the police showed up to arrest the criminals, but Ollie doubts the criminals will give up any useful information. Ollie asks his old friend what is he doing in Star City and Hal admits that he is trying to make sense of a vision he got from the Book of Oa and perhaps he thought Ollie could help Hal clear his head. Ollie believes a superhero team-up will make Hal feel better. Their first order of business is to punch down some thugs looking to cause some trouble at the bar.

As they exit the bar, the hard-traveling heroes are contacted by Mr. Terrific, who has gathered information about the corporation Green Arrow had been tracking down. Its name is Omega Construction and it has been buying properties around their headquarters around the time Darkseid apparently died at the Watchtower. The heroes in green believe this is not a coincidence and infiltrate Omega's headquarters, only to be attacked by an army of robots. Hal constructs a barrier to deflect the robots' laser beams while Green Arrow shuts them down with an arrow equipped with an electromagnetic pulse. They enter a big white room and Hal uses his ring to detect a large entrance hidden on the floor.

Beneath the hidden door, Hal and Green Arrow find a cybernetically enhanced metahuman identifying himself as X-Tingency. He is the guardian of a special refuge that will protect its inhabitants during the coming reformation of the Earth, an endeavor that Green Arrow refers to as an ark for rich people. The hard-traveling heroes wonder why would X-Tingency bother to reveal all this information to them and X-Tingency admits he is delaying them. Suddenly, a giant robot emerges from the ceiling and attacks the heroes in an attempt to protect the refuge.

The battle causes severe damage to the surrounding streets, but Hal has an idea on how to stop the robot. He constructs a large bow that Green Arrow will use to shoot a hard light arrow to the robot's chest. The robot notices the oncoming arrow construct and destroys it but realizes too late the construct was hiding an explosive arrow that destroys the robot's power source. The heroes in green stand victorious.

The Justice League arrives to help with the cleanup and Mr. Terrific informs Hal and Green Arrow that they have taken X-Tingency into custody. The League hopes it can use X-Tingency's database to stop the oncoming event and Green Arrow tells Hal there is one person who can help him regarding his visions. Hal reluctantly agrees to visit him despite his dislike for Gotham City.

  • X-Tingency saying that "something is coming to change Earth" is obviously a nod to the DC K.O. event.
