Grifter (Volume 1) with a cover date of November, 1995.
Synopsis for the 1st Story
Cash gets armed and dressed while Regiment continues his rampage in the streets. Grifter shoots him to no effect and then climbs aboard an IO helicopter. Crenshaw agrees to help Cash in exchange for stopping Regiment and uses a virtual reality helmet to brief Regiment’s history: a convicted murderer, he was recruited by Miles Craven for the Team 0 protocols in exchange for a commuted sentence; given superhuman strength—the equivalent of a regiment of men, hence his codename—he joined Team One and stopped the Daemonite detonation of a nuclear bomb; left highly radioactive afterward, he was sold by IO to Dr. Towa’s company in Japan. In addition to a passport, Grifter negotiates for $100,000 and a special VAD cannon to stop Regiment. He then leaps back into battle, fighting Regiment in the streets until Zaijian and agents of Confucius arrive to help. Throughout, Regiment repeatedly screams Craven’s name. IO finally arrives with the cannon, and Grifter blasts Regiment with it three times to knock him out. IO takes Regiment into custody, and Cash returns with Zaijian to Taipei where he visits Chiko, a woman he accidentally injured in the battle with Diabolik.
