Gunfire (Volume 1) with a cover date of May, 1994.
Synopsis for "Deadly Homecoming"
Andrew Van Horn, codenamed Gunfire, was on a mission, at night, in a construction site. In a flashback, at the funeral of Gunther Van Horn, Andrew's father, Andrew was talking to his Aunt Lacey, when they were approached by Carlton Slater, who offered them the use of his private limousine, citing that there was paparazzi outside of the cemetery waiting for them. When Slater, Andrew, and his aunt were inside the former of the men's limousine, Slater informed Andrew that Gunther was working on something important before his death. Moments later, Andrew demanded that Slater delivered to him his father's work, until a coffee hand suddenly shot out of a cup in his hand and landed on him. Andrew speculated that the limousine may have hit a pothole, which Slater pointed out that they did not hit anything.
Andrew, Lacey, and Slater arrived at the Van Horn Estate. When Andrew and Lacey got off, Slater said that they would hear from him again. As Slater's limousine drove away, Lacey suggested that she could have warned Andrew about him. Back at the construction site, Andy was still in the construction site, attempting to dodge laser sensors and communicating with his friend Ben over his communicator. Andy activated his infrared goggles and spotted a man on the fourth floor of the site. Next, he picked up a metal rod from the ground and used the powers from his suit to make it shoot a makeshift laser at a construction beam, causing some men on the floor to lose balance. In a flashback, Andy, Lacey, Ben, and their friend Yvette were looking at a portrait of the recently deceased Gunther, when Meagan, Lacey's assistant, entered the room, informing her that there was a call for her in her office. Afterwards, Andy, Ben, and Yvette rode out to the new Van Horn Industries Headquarters. Back at the construction site, Andy's rod disintegrated from overuse. Then, he went to a crane and operated it, getting on, as a way of reaching higher ground. Upon riding the crane up, he was fired upon by gunmen and fired back using a makeshift laser from a crowbar until he reached higher ground, only to be immediately shot by a gunman with a laser, scrambling his circuits. Next, Andy picked up a wooden plank and opened fire on the gunmen.
In a flashback, at Andy's hideout, Ben informed him that he would make modifications to his helmet. Suddenly, Slater walked into the room with two men, attempting to make a search that resulted in a violent confrontation between Andy and Yvette and Slater's men. Andy grabbed onto a gun of one of the men, causing it to combust. However, the man threw the gun away before it exploded, triggering the sprinklers. Afterwards, Slater continued to demand the item from Andy, which Ben responded by pointing a laser gun at him, chasing him and his men away.Back at the mission, Andy's circuits had rebooted, allowing him to fire lasers using a rivet gun, as he made his way out. In a flashback, Ben was with Andrew and Yvette, working on the Gunfire suit, when somebody threw tear gas through the window and ran off with her in a van. Andy attempted to stop the kidnappers, who told them that they would return Yvette in exchange for the item that Slater wanted, but they drove off. Afterwards, Andy decided that he had no choice but to negotiate with Slater.
Back at the construction site, Ricochet arrived with Yvette, with her mouth taped shut and her hands tied, to negotiate with Andy; Yvette in exchange for the C.D.I. Andy told Yvette to take cover while he attempted to shoot Slater with the rivet gun, which was unable to harm Ricochet.
