Synopsis for "Manifest Destiny"

Guy Gardner finds himself surrounded by Boodikka and a bunch of other aliens mesmerized to kill him. He realizes that his persecutors are hypnotized and that he is somehow invulnerable to that strange effect due to his Qwardian Ring. After escaping from Boodikka, Guy finds a group of strange serpent-like aliens who appear invisible to the others. Guy confronts them, but a force field repels him, but his ring translates part of their conversation, and they mention a "manifest destiny to purify the cosmos."

Gardner then heads to the war-consumed city looking for a local. He finds one of the inhabitants and frees him of his hypnosis. He explains that the invaders, called the Ophidians, are dedicated to destroying all other life in the universe. They mesmerize their victims to evoke their latent ferocity and cause them to annihilate each other.

Guy promises to find a solution to this problem. To that end, he returns with Boodikka and the others and frees them from their hypnosis. Together, Boodikka and Guy join their wills to catch up to the Ophidians spaceship. Their combined minds resist the Ophidian's control, and it causes feedback that blows the entire craft.

Guy and Boodikka return to the alien planet, where the locals are now free of the Ophidians' mind control. After receiving the payment from the Palindrordnilap, Guy decides to quit the team and return to the League. Boodikka contacts the Guardians of the Universe to inform them that Guy's ring is charged again, but they decide to let him keep it because he is working toward the same ends as they are.
