H.J. Ward (b. March 8, 1909 – d.February 7, 1945) was a pulp magazine cover artist who in 1940 painted the first full-length oil painting of Superman. This painting was displayed in the National Comics offices for years and later served as the cover to Limited Collectors' Edition #C-31.
