"The Ha-Hacienda" is the name frequently attributed to hideouts and living areas of the Joker, and it is unclear whether it is one specific location or simply what he calls whatever place he's using at the time. The Joker is known to boobytrap his hideouts to prevent meddlers from getting further into the place.
The first known Hacienda used by Joker was a big old mansion at the top of a hill, which was considered to be haunted. The "Haunted House" was Joker's secret headquarters, where he planned all his crimes until Batman and Robin located the place and broke inside. Despite the various tricks and traps Joker prepared for them, the dynamic duo managed to overcome the traps and defeated the madman.
After this, Joker established a new hideout where he monitored Batman's activities and he also kept memorabilia from his past crimes. Joker took Batman and Robin to this hideout just before he abandoned the place and tossed the dynamic duo downwards through a trap door to a complex labyrinth. Batman and Robin found an exit which connected the secret hideout to an outside tree and they were free.
The third known hideout was a ramshackle house in the woods, that concealed a very neat and organized place. Joker had the place entirely decorated and themed after cards and there was also a hidden vault with millions of dollars in currency and jewels, all of which was part of Joker's loot from his previous crimes.
Joker's fourth hideout was located in Number 13, Coffin Street in Gotham. He rigged this place with all sorts of deadly traps in preparation for a possible confrontation with Batman. It is possible that another of his hideouts was located at 267 Dornley Street, but he only used the place as a decoy. Joker would always keep changing his base of operations, but he would constantly incorporate traps inside in case Batman found the places.
Another one of Joker's hideout was located on an island and this place was built with giant elements like cards, dice and other casino elements like a pin-ball game and a giant roulette. This place was built to defeat Batman, but when Joker was unsuccessful, he jumped off a cliff to the ocean near the island.
The next Ha-Hacienda featured a dungeon prison in which Robin was held prisoner to blackmail Batman.
Decorated with playin card elements, the Ha-Hacienda was used by Joker as a safe haven for his criminal capers and he often allowed his allies to get inside the place. He would also use the place to hold hostages and device criminal plots. There was a security measure in order to enter the place and it was a system that recognized Joker's laugh in order to unlock the doors.
Joker also had a mobile version of the Ha-Hacienda, which he called the "Ho-Home-On-Wheels".
- Batman has been shown to have a (supposedly) complete computer database of all of his enemies former hideouts, presumably different incarnations of the Hacienda.
- Joker's first appearance in Batman #1, show him in a dark place, where he planned his crimes. However, it is not clear if this was his early Hacienda or some different place.
- Joker's hideout was officially named as "Ha-Hacienda" in the first issue of Joker's own comic book. The letter pages of that series was also titled "The Joker's Ha-Hacienda".
