Hades was the Greek god of the Underworld.
History
Long ago he had struck a deal with the Titans. As punishment for this, he was trapped in Tartarus to rule over the dead.
Many years later, Felix Faust blackmailed Wonder Woman into getting the key to Tartarus. Using the key, he entered Hades' realm in order to bargain with the deity. He offered to free Hades in exchange for ultimate knowledge.
After Faust led him through the gate opened by the key, freeing him from his imprisonment, Hades rapidly aged Faust. The god justified this by claiming that the only ultimate knowledge that humans could know was pain and suffering. He then turned to deal with the just arrived Justice League. He was defeated when Wonder Woman wrenched the key from its lock. This resulted in Hades and Faust's corpse being pulled back into Tartarus.[1][2]
Months later, Faust's soul was able to escape Tartarus with the help of Tala. Inhabiting a supernaturally powered suit of armor, he returned to the gates of Tartarus bent on revenge on Hades. Forcing his way into the realm, he confronted Hades. To avoid fighting the massively powered armor, Hades offered Faust his library, representing more than 5,000 years of knowledge. While he took the gift, Faust also bound Hades to a rock where he was constantly attacked by vultures.
In response to the disruption in Tartarus, Zeus sent Wonder Woman a written message ordering her to restore balance to the underworld. She was accompanied by Hawkgirl on her journey. Together they located and freed Hades. The three of them managed to destroy the powered armor, defeating Faust. Hades claimed the sorcerer's soul, intending to torture it. As the heroines left Tartarus, he told Wonder Woman that he and Hippolyta had "sculpted her together", implying that he was her father. As they returned home, Hawkgirl claimed that he was lying. Wonder Woman was not convinced, acknowledging that he could be telling the truth. She also stated it did not matter since it was only her mother who had raised her, and that resulted in her being the hero she was.[3]
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Olympian God: Hades is an Olympian God, whose true form is that of a terrifying demonic entity.[2]
- Immortality: Like the Olympian Gods, he too is timeless and incredibly ancient. It is unknown if he is unkillable.
- Superhuman Strength: He knocked Wonder Woman into a stone wall with a tug on her lasso and easily damaged Superman with a flick of his wrist.[2]
- Superhuman Durability: He was able to withstand Batman's explosives and Flash's flurry of fists.[2] He could even withstands tremendous attacks and energy blasts from Felix Faust's Annihilator Armor. He is even impervious to powerful explosions.[3]
- Regeneration: Upon being released by Wonder Woman, he immediately regenerated form the damage done to him by the Vultures.[3]
- Magic: He has tremendous levels of supernatural power, which gives him a vast edge over the Justice League.[2]
- Metamorphosis: He can hide his demonic form with a charismatic human form. He can even increase his physical size.[2]
- Chronokinesis: He granted Felix Faust "ultimate knowledge" which reduced him to a corpse.[2]
- Flight: Hades can fly, as he did while combating Felix Faust.[3]
- Flame Breath: He was able to project hellfire from his mouth, which is powerful enough to chase away the Flash and burn the Martian Manhunter. It nearly destroyed Superman himself.[2]
- Necromancy: He summoned zombies from the pit of souls and used them to attack the Justice League.[2] He can also physically touch and restrain the soul of Felix Faust.[3]
- Teleportation: He was able to teleport himself and Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl to Felix Faust's location.[3]
- Telekinesis: He was able to psionically move large structures during his battle with the Justice League.[2]
- Aerokinesis: He was able to manipulate the winds when he teleported to Felix Faust's location.[3]
