Halley's Comet is the only known short-period comet that is consistently visible to the naked eye from Earth, appearing every 75–79 years.

History

Halley's periodic returns have been subject to scientific investigation since the 16th century. The three apparitions from 1531 to 1682 were noted by Edmond Halley, enabling him to predict it would return. By studying data on the 1531, 1607, and 1682 comets, he came to the conclusion these were the same comet, and presented his findings in 1696.

Earth-Two

Wonder Woman reignited a lamp of the leprechauns in the tail of Halley.[1]

Earth-One

In 1910, the Watchdogs of the Universe prevented Comet Halley from poisoning the Earth's atmosphere.

Alternate universe

In an alternate universe, Halley's Comet was destroyed by the Kallabarans.[2]

Earth-Prime

1986, on Earth-Prime, the young Clark Kent and Laurie Lemmon drove down to Hampton Beach and sat by the ocean waiting to catch sight of Halley's Comet.

Suddenly, a tremendous tidal wave rose up on the beachhead threatening to flood the small hamlet. At that same moment, a cosmic vortex opened up above them, discharging a super-hero they recognized as Superman, still reeling from the death of Supergirl.[3] At that critical moment, a bizarre transformation took hold of Earth-Prime Clark. The physical characteristics of his Kryptonian heritage manifested for the first time and he discovered that he was gifted with flight and super-strength.
