History

In the mid-20th Century, astronomers on Halus XII detected an incoming meteor, on a collision course with their own planet, six years from impact. Multiple expeditions were launched, seeking other planets for a mass migration. One crew of scouts landed on Earth, between the Coral Sea and the Solomon Islands, and established a domed base, a "glass fort."

This base had a series of four mini-environments, whose atmospheres and other features were specially established, simulating Halusian conditions, two intermediate sets of conditions, and Earth conditions. Groups of the scouts lived in the different segments, in sequence, to gradually acclimate themselves to Earth conditions. One group had already reached this stage, when the alien settlement was accidentally discovered by the Blackhawks. The leader of this group, Vigo, planned to conquer Earth.

The situation back at Halus XII had changed, in the meantime, and an asteroid had collided with the incoming meteor, destroying both. Halus XII was safe, and all expeditions were recalled. Vigo ignored this order and proceeded with his plans for conquest. The Blackhawks defeated Vigo, and made peace with the remaining Halusians, who departed on friendly terms with the Blackhawks. Their Pacific island base ceased to exist at their departure.
