Harrison Wells is a brilliant scientist who was supposed to successfully build the Particle Accelerator on Earth-1.

History

Original Timeline

In the original timeline of Earth-1, Harrison Wells and his wife, Tess, created the S.T.A.R. Labs in early 2000s and activated the Particle Accelerator in 2020.

Pre-Crisis

However, Wells' timeline was altered in 2000 when a time traveler named Eobard Thawne, who lost his powers while trying to kill Barry Allen in the past and therefore was stranded in the early 2000s.

Knowing about his importance to the timeline, Thawne began observing him until, on April 16, 2000, he purposefully caused Wells' car to crash, just outside Starling City killing his wife Tess. Using future technology, Thawne transferred Wells' DNA to himself, gaining the scientist's physical appearance and adopting Wells' persona as his own.

Thawne used Wells' legacy to become an important businessman and replaced him in the history of Earth-1, causing the early rise of S.T.A.R. Labs and anticipated the activation of its Particle Accelerator.

Wells' hidden body was eventually found in a wood nearby the crash point in 2015 by Cisco Ramon, CCPD Det. Joe West and SCPD Det. Quentin Lance.
