Synopsis for "Godspawn: Part 4 - An Angel Chained in Hell"

Katar Hol continues to battle Carter Hall, who is under the influence of the hawk-like entity that has been appearing to the Hawkmen. Eventually, Hol is able to defeat Hall as Naomi Carter and a grounded Shayera Thal, who earlier sacrificed her wings and flight harness to summon a vision of the entity, look on. Hall seemingly regains his senses and goes off to scout the Bad Blood Gang's location. Meanwhile, Naomi reveals what she knows of Hol's father, Paran Katar. She tells them that Paran was obsessed with improving Thanagar and experimented with power sources to overcome gravity, both mystic and technological. Paran cryptically alluded to his success which came from, as he referred to it, "chaining an angel in hell." Hol and Thal make the connection to the Thanagarian mythology of the Seven Hells, the Seven Heavens, the Seven Gods who inhabited them. Some were aligned with good and some with evil. Their captive, Thal Porvis, reveals that Paran believed the Heavens and the Hells to have a scientific explanation, that they were other dimensions. Porvis dismisses the theory as blasphemy. Eventually they come to the sobering realization that Nth Metal has a connection to the hawk-like entity. It seems that Paran discovered a way to use Nth Metal to capture an entity in another dimension. Using the suffering of the imprisoned entity as a power source, he was able to unlock some of the potential of the Nth Metal and develop Thanagarian anti-gravitational technology leading to a Thanagarian renaissance. However, Hol admits that Thanagarian society has become corrupt and unethical caste system which takes advantage of the downtrodden. Hol further hypothesizes that the hawk-like entity, or Hawkgod, has been awakened by recent fluctuations in the timeline. It is reaching out from its prison through Nth Metal, manipulating those who use it, and attempting to escape.

Reeling from these realizations, the group goes to find Hall. On the way, they encounter Hawkgirl (Shiera Hall). Soon, Hall appears and confirms that he has found the Bad Blood gang. He tells the others that the Justice Society of America thinks that Vandal Savage is responsible for recent time fluctuations. He and Shiera go to join them. Hol goes to the Bad Blood hideout, only to find that Hall has slaughtered them. Hol is shocked to realize that the Hawkgod manipulated Hall to savagely murder the gang.
