Hawkman travels to Lubeck in Germany, where he lived one of his past lives, as a blacksmith's son in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Here he encounters a man who has lost his wife, and is in mourning, and discusses loss and pain with him. Together they realise that the old saying "better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all" really is true, and Hawkman resolves to devote more time to those he loves now.
