I come two hundred miles to see the bugger, and he's dead and buried.
Hellblazer #177 is an issue of the series Hellblazer (Volume 1) with a cover date of December, 2002. It was published on October 30, 2002.
Synopsis for "RED SEPULCHRE PART ONE of FOUR"
John and Chas, following the lead John received in the previous story arc, arrive at a burned-down antique and collectible shop, which – just six months ago – was in working condition, and whose owner (Nicholas "Scrape" Gillis) and a male Russian associate (and former gay lover) were brutally attacked. The meet between Scrape and the Russian apparently was business-related, and a third party very quickly cut the transaction short, and killed the Russian. They then appeared to have reneged on a deal that was previously made with Scrape, and Scrape's fate was not explicitly shown.
In the present, a shadowy figure is informed that the search through some set of boxes has been unsuccessful, Gillis is not giving information, and that Constantine is alive and in London; the last piece of information seems to be of great importance to the figure. Chas drops John off to meet an old woman and associate named Clarice, who John is hoping might provide some insight as what is going on. She turns out not to be very helpful.
On their way to meet Map in his underground residence, John discusses his current observations and thoughts concerning the investigation. Unfortunately, it appears Map is unwilling to see John. Clarice and others are seated around a table discussing concerns about Constantine and someone named Fredricks. Before Chas goes home, he drops John off at Scrape's shop again. John uses a spell that is able to direct him to his next location of interest, and suggests the possibility that Scrape is still alive. In a room full of boxes filled with antiques, a group of men appear to be searching for something. They are soon interrupted and given other orders. Constantine is then seen walking the streets, and is suddenly attacked by two men who he is barely able to defeat. He returns to his apartment, where he is contacted by Map, and given a tape that shows a young woman who we can assume to be an alive and healthy Gemma. Map warns Constantine to be very careful which side he chooses after viewing the tape. On it, the woman tells him she knows people who would be very interested in meeting with him.
