Henry Miller, aka Atom-Man, was a white supremacist terrorist and one of Supermans's earliest foes.

Shortly after Superman revealed himself to the world, Miller launched a series of attacks against minorites in Metropolis. He was foiled by Superman and imprisoned.[1]

Almost two decades later, Miller developed a brain tumour and was given only weeks to live. His initial appeal for compassionate release from prison was rejected but Bruno Mannheim coerced a judge into releasing him. Intergang scientists enhanced Miller to allow him to survive months past his initial prognosis and granted him powers similar to Superman. Miller launched a new attack on Metropolis and Superman responded as he had expected. They fought an aerial battle around the city.

Superman asked Miller who had given him powers but Miller refused to answer, saying "they" were coming for him and he needed to kill Superman before his enemies caught up to him. They eventually ended up in an alley where Miller was seemingly shot multiple times and collapsed to the floor dead, but when Superman X-rayed Miller's body he saw there were no bullets in it.

Peia Mannheim lured Superman away from the alley by creating the sounds of multiple emergencies around the city, then took Miller's body to a secret laboratory where Mannheim and a scientist restored him to life using a serum derived from Superman's blood.[2][3] Miller was brought back in a feral state and, when he did not regain his sanity after twenty-four hours, Mannheim had him put into a coma and transferred to a containment tank where Intergang's scientists continued to experiment on him.[4][3]

Mannheim eventually reactivated Miller and sent him to kill his enemy John Henry Irons. Miller flew to Smallville and attacked Irons' home. He had been warned about Irons' Warsuit and so attacked him while he was unarmoured and destroyed his remote control so Iron could not summon the suit. As his orders were to make John Henry suffer, he didn't kill him immediately and instead beat him and broke multiple bones. Superman swooped into to stop him and the two fought on Smallville's main street. Miller eventually threw Superman far away into the air and went to finish Irons off, but he managed to summon his hammer and killed Miller with an uppercut.[5]
