Hippolyta was the Queen of the Amazons and mother of Diana.

History

Although Amazonia had a long standing alliance with the Kingdom of the Storms, Hippolyta tried to maintain good relationships with the House of El, even fostering Princess Zala Jor-El on Amazonia. However, when Queen Anissa declared war on the Els, after her father and brother were seemingly murdered by Zala, Hippolyta was honour-bound to join the war on the Pierces' side.

Hippolyta and Anissa marched their armies towards the Castle of El. The witch who lived in Hobb Forest was allied with the Els and tried to kill them as they passed through, but they were saved by the Green Man. Once they reached the castle, a White Martian in the form of Queen Lara came out to confront them. Believing it was the real Lara, Hippolyta asked her to peacefully surrender to avoid bloodshed, but "Lara" murdered Hippolyta in response to provoke the Amazons into attacking.

Notes

• Hippolyta was created by William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter, first appearing in All-Star Comics #8. However, the Dark Knights of Steel version of Hippolyta first appeared in Dark Knights of Steel #2 by Tom Taylor and Yasmine Putri.
