- Adams originally wrote The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as a BBC radio series that was broadcast in 1978, before adapting it into a novel in 1979 that altered the story's order of events and some other minor details. The comic is a direct adaptation of the novel as opposed to the radio series.
- The spine of the series' trade collection reads "Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe", though the correct title is still on the front cover.
