During the Cold War, wide-scale fighting took place not only in Northeast Asian Korea but also in Southeast Asian Hungjon. It was here that the Red Army attempted to overrun the capital city with burrowing "Termite Tanks."

Hungjon was one of the many fronts on which open military actions were fought curing the Cold War.
