Linda Danvers was Ida Berkowitz' tenant when the former lived in Chicago.

Early Life

Born and raised in Poland, Ida Berkowitz was married to a tailor called Hymie Berkowitz and had a daughter, Rachel. The Berkowitz family was living in Warsaw when World War II broke out. Ida and her family attempted to stay in their city, but they eventually escaped the country. After months running away they were caught up by German soldiers. Hymie died in an attempt to save his family, and Ida and Rachel were captured.

Mother and daughter were taken to Auschwitz and separated. In 1944, the camp was freed by the Russians, but Ida was told her daughter had died. Having nothing left, Ida departed Europe. She moved to Chicago and bought a house in Roger's Park Neighborhood, where she began renting out apartments to youngsters.

Blackstarr

 Main article: Supergirl: Blackstarr

Ida wanted nothing but to live her last years in peace, but when a neo-nazi group moved to Chicago she feared they'd come after her again, a feeling wasn't assuaged at all when someone scrawled a swastika on her house's door.

Shortly after she found out the leader of the neo-nazi party, a super-villain named Blackstarr was actually her daughter Rachel. After they were separated, Rachel became convinced her mother abandoned her, and although she survived, she grew up hating her mother and her kin.

Despite her wishes, Ida was helpless to stop the confrontation between her daughter and Supergirl.
