Ignatius is Lex Luthor's pet iguana and enemy of Krypto.

At the same time that Ignatius was being fed by Lex Luthor, Luthor was also receiving two of his scientists, who chose to introduce him to their new invention: the Growth Ray. Ignatius untangled himself and watched as the new ray machine caused a apple gained size and weight. When the presentation ended, the scientists and Lex Luthor left the room and then Ingatius abandoned his terrarium and planned to use the device for his own purposes - to raise insects for food.

While checking the ray's aim, Ignatius saw Krypto and Streaky playing with a caterpillar in the park and as soon as Krypto and Streaky left the caterpillar alone, Ignatius fired the ray at it, causing the insect to gain size.Ignatius left LexCorp with cultery to make his new meal. The caterpillar called for Krypto once more and then grew again. Ignatius tried to grab the insect with his tongue, but failed because the caterpillar grew so much that it broke a branch. The enlarged caterpillar was not hurt by the fall due to Ignatius's tongue acting like a rubber band, while Ignatius landed in nearby bushes. The caterpillar moved away from the tree and entered the inhabited area and caused terror among the Metropolis citizens.

A moment later, Krypto spotted the full-grown caterpillar and decided to intervene. Kripto tried in vain to grab the caterpillar, being ejected onto the subway bridge, which damaged it, causing Krypto to have to hold onto the bridge to ensure the subway traveled safely. The only individual happy with the presence of the huge caterpillar was Ingatius, as he lured the insect to one of LexCorp's magazines, hoping to eat the insect as the main dish. The caterpillar entered the magazine, without realizing that it was a trap that Ignatius had set. Once the subway had safely moved, Krypto used his laser beam to repair the bridge's damaged pillar and then headed towards Ignatius. The iguana was shocked by the presence of Krypto the Superdog, who scanned the area with his X-ray vision and let Ignatius enter, since the caterpillar was in a large cocoon, which was impossible for Ignatius's cutlery to pierce.[1]
