Synopsis for "Inferior 5"
On the outskirts of Dangerfield, Arizona, an unnamed girl is killed trying to flee a masked figure.
Justin and his mother recently moved to Dangerfield after the his father died during the invasion of Metropolis. His mother ends a hushed phone call about him as he arrives home. Justin laments that the town is incredibly boring. His mom gives him five dollars and sends him downtown as Billy Shanker approaches the home.
In the Dangerfield comic shop, Quantum Comics, another resident, Lisa, reads issue #37 of Invasion! where a Dominator and Khundian survey Earth from orbit and discuss the fall of Superman and his resistance. The Dominator summons Billy Shanker before Lisa stops reading, not understanding why someone would make a comic about such a horrific event. While talking to the owner, Vlad, he coughs up blood, passing it off as "sensitive gums."
Justin heads into House of Wax, a record store, where Vance and Theresa are arguing. After calling her Dumb Bunny, Theresa punches Vance in the face. Vance says that they have to stick together in case "he" comes back.
Lisa explains to her friend Helen, an apparent shapeshifter, that she believes Billy Shanker is back. She's noticed patterns, like X's on all the houses, only kids with single mothers moving to Dangerfield, similar event in a town in Australia, but she doesn't know what it all means.
Billy Shanker drags Justin's mom in a bag to a man in a hazmat suit as Justin returns home. The house is covered in red X's.
