Synopsis for "Mecha"

This story is reprinted from Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse #10 (Digital), Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse #11 (Digital) and Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse #12 (Digital).

A citywide alert sounds in Metropolis of Earth-44, telling the people to evacuate the downtown area. As the citizens question where the Justice Consortium are, a scene of great destruction unfolds in the Financial District. The Justice League members from Earth-0 meanwhile investigate the city and discover they are in Metropolis. Zatanna states that they must be in a variation of the city since they faced a Batman from another dimension, and Cyborg adds that their universe is likely part of a multiverse.

The Flash questions Cyborg whether he can send them back to their world, but the latter reprimands him for thinking of leaving the world in trouble. Flash states he suggested it so they can bring backup to deal with the problems of this world's Metropolis. Cyborg then apologizes and affirms he can transport them, but it'll take him some time to construct a new portal, adding it had destabilized before and he had never encountered energies like it before. The ground however soon shakes and the team goes to have a look as to what's causing it.

The Flash soon finds several city blocks destroyed and upon running to a rooftop, discovers that a giant monster resembling Doomsday is behind it. As he tries to evade the beast, Cyborg and Zatanna come in to help, but soon get knocked away by its thunderclap. An android calling himself Superman however rescues them, before asking what the Monitor told them about handling the crisis threatening Earth-44. As they express ignorance, he states that they then must be a threat themselves.

Superman demands to know from the League members what they are doing on his world and if they are the ones responsible for unleashing the monster. Flash, Zatanna and Cyborg try convincing him that they didn't, but he refuses to trust them since that's what he had been instructed with. As he tries to subdue them, Zatanna freezes his time flow, leaving him in suspended animation. Zatanna suggests unfreezing him since he's incredibly powerful, but Cyborg warns against it since he'll turn on them instead and being a robotic construct, won't listen to them unless they can provide definite proof to allay his doubts.

The monster however soon attacks the four heroes, but the League escapes. Superman however gets smashed into pieces and Zatanna blames herself, since she was the one who froze him in place. Flash reassures it was not her fault and states that they're going to stop the beast no matter what it takes, in order to honor Superman's death. The others nod in agreement. The Mecha Superman meanwhile attempts a repair at the nano-scale and after its initial failure, focuses on his memories to give him strength. The Monitor had told him that he would send him allies through the Bleed, but also warned him to be aware of any threats. Superman stated his world was peaceful, but the Monitor assured a crisis will come and he will require help.

The Monitor after being told by Superman that he can't trust him since he has no such ability, shared with him all the data he had on the coming crisis, but also told him to overcome his robotic limitations and to learn when to trust people. When Superman stated he probably won't be able to understand human feelings, he reminded that he did feel when Clark Kent died and to focus on that grief in order to find strength. The focus allows Superman to pull through. Meanwhile, the Justice Consortium shows up to battle the monster, which the League is struggling against, and Zatanna later tells her teammates that they're fighting the Doomsday from the magical Earth-13. Superman arrives and tells the League he trusts them. When Zatanna states Doomsday is unstoppable, he responds that they will stop it together.

On Earth-13, the owl of that world's Zatanna tells the magician Kara Zor-El that they're reaching their destination, but Lord Zod becomes annoyed at the human not speaking herself. Kara reminds that she had sacrificed her voice to protect the Sun in past and now the owl Merels, which is her familiar, is her only way of communicating. Learning her scythe is her only way to channel her magic, Zod says that humans are too afraid of magic and Zatanna, who's filled with it, should trust it. Kara reminds that few trust his necromancy, upon which he rebukes them, stating his powers from the Phantom Realm's lords will defeat the Black and resurrect Krypton. As they arrive at their destination, Kara investigates and states she must trust her allies despite her doubts, as Harbinger chose them.

As Kara wishes the Green Lantern were here, Zatanna reads her thoughts and ignores her question when she learns what she is dpinf. As Kara tells Zatanna that she doesn't like or trust her since she fears herself, Zod comes upon a tomb and alerts them. He reveals that it's called the "Long Barrow", where Doomsday was imprisoned long ago after being defeated, and he fears that the monster may have escaped. As the three investigate, Zatanna discovers that he really is gone, but is unable to find where he went. Zod discovers a strange technological device in the barrow and states that what the Harbinger told them about the coming crisis is turning out to be true. As Kara wonders what to do with the device, Zod destroys it, but it just reforms.

Zatanna reveals that all tombs of Earth have been emptied and their monsters loosened upon other worlds. Zod feels it too and Kara decides to warn the others. They however soon get ambushed by mysterious drones and fight back, but struggle to defeat them. Zatanna then uses her scythe to unleash blood magic, the most powerful of all kinds of magic, but a mysterious figure snatches it away when she starts turning the tide, leaving her powerless. Zod panics at this situation and wonders what to do, before Kara tells him to keep his promise of helping her. The mysterious figure then orders the drones to follow his orders and kill them all.
