Synopsis for "When You Wake Up"

Six years prior to Krypton's destruction. Jor-El and Zor-El teach Kara how to fly a giant, insect-like beast. Unfortunately she breaks her arm when landing. Her mother Alura is going to sedate her. Kara protests she doesn't want to sleep, but her mother reassures her she will be safe and surrounded by her family when she wakes up.

Six years later. The Fall of Krypton. Jor and Zor help fight Brainiac's hordes off, but they know it's too late. Brainiac has destabilized the planet's core. Zor-El gets killed by a Brainiac drone and Jor-El promises he'll see to his daughter's safety. After hugging his brother for the last time, Jor-El heads back to their home. He meets Alura and although he doesn't want confess her husband is dead, she knows. Jor-El tries to calm her down, stating they can save his son and her daughter if they act now.

Alura goes to get her daughter, gunning down a Brainiac drone in the process, and leads Kara to a space-ship. There, Alura reveals Kara and her cousin Kal will be sent to another world where they'll be safe from Brainiac. Alura asks Kara to protect her cousin. Kara doesn't want to leave without her mother, but Alura will not take "no" for an answer.

Kara and Kal are blasted into space shortly before the explosion. Kara's space-ship aligns with Kal's and she gets to see her baby cousin right before a meteor crashes into her ship. Her pod damaged and detoured, the A.I. plots a new trajectory. Since her trip will last longer, the computer puts Kara in cryostasis. Thirty-five years later, her ship crash-lands on Earth and is found by Black Adam.

Claiming to be Kal-El's friend, Adam takes Kara to Kahndaq. Adam has many questions but Kara is in no shape to talk yet and he has to deal with foreign troops approaching his borders. Adam instructs a retainer to give her food, water and keep her constantly in the sunshine and heads off.

Black Adam meets with a Bialyan officer who states his country has a claim on whatever was retrieved by Adam. Black Adam replies that said object is no concern of his and while he isn't happy with them threatening his country, he's willing to consider it an error in judgment and allow them to leave. When the officer tries to press the matter, Black Adam incinerates them, crushes his troops and warn them against threatening Kahndaq again.

This scene is watched by Vixen and Animal Man, who turn around and head to debrief R'as Al Ghul.

Back in Kahndaq, Kara's begun to speak. She's awfully traumatized but she needs to know what has happened to her baby cousin. Black Adam feeds her a skewed version of the facts in where Kal-El was a benevolent ruler, betrayed and emprisoned by her conniving best friend.

Kara wants to free her cousin. Black Adam thinks Kal-El's current lover will help them if they free her. But they have to wait until Kara gains her power and her abilities. Until then, she must stay hidden and reveal herself to no one.
