Formicida was an enemy of Wonder Woman who could control ants.
History
Dr. Irene "Renie" Janus was a shy and introverted scientist with an interest in ants. Together with her boyfriend Dr. Doug Radcliffe, Janus created a new pesticide named EF-11, which Radcliffe then sold to chemical firm GDH Enterprises before it had been completed. Knowing that the current version of the pesticide would poison the water in every country it was used in, Janus tried to take legal actions against the company. However, she found her attempts ignored.
Frustrated, Janus drank a hormonal formula based on her ants. The formula transformed her into the evil Formicida, who'd stop at nothing to do what Irene couldn't (even at the expense of human lives).
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Transformation: By drinking a hormonal formula, Janus's physical appearance changed -- her skin darkened (especially around her eyes), her hair curled, and her mouth and jaw changed shape. The formula also granted her superhuman abilities.
- Superhuman Strength: As Formicida, Janus is able to lift 50 times her own weight.
- Insect Control: Due to the hormonal formula being taken from ants, Formicida is able to mentally control and communicate with ants.
Weaknesses
- Janus's transformation into Formicida was temporary. In her final battle with GDH Enterprises, Formicida reverted to Janus before she was able to destroy the pesticide.
- After Janus was apprehended by the police, she allowed Wonder Woman to erase the knowledge of how to create the Formicida formula from her mind, so she can no longer easily become Formicida.
Notes
- Both Irene Janus and Formicida were portrayed by Lorene Yarnell.
