J. Wilbur Wolfingham was a con-man who cheated many good people out of their money, only to be thwarted by Superman.
History
J. Wilbur Wolfingham was an old-fashioned confidence man with a non-violent sense of ethics whose battles with Superman usually took place on a mental scale rather than a physical one. He attempted to teach the "art of the con" to his teenage nephew by selling the planet Earth to an alien visitor, which worked until the alien returned with many of his fellow people and began colonizing key areas on the planet Earth. Superman used his powers to create several "natural disasters" to convince the aliens that the planet Earth was uninhabitable, Wolfingham cheerfully refunded the original purchase price, and things returned to normal on Earth.[1]
