Synopsis for "Out of the Shadows"
Dr. Mid-Nite responds to a distress call in a Washington subway station accident. Due to the smoke and pitch-black atmosphere created by the accident, paramedics and firemen are paralyzed from assisting the victims caught inside. Dr. Mid-Nite heads in and finds a woman named Carrie trapped beneath the wreckage. He begins to free her when her water breaks and she enters labor.
Dr. Mid-Nite sterilizes the room and Carried tells him she doesn't want drugs. She just wants him to talk to her so she can get through a natural birth. He tells the story of the original Dr. Mid-Nite, Charles McNider, delivering him at birth and him taking up the mantel as an homage. He then explains he lost his daylight vision in an accident where the last thing he saw was Katherine Blythe, the woman he killed in a head-on collision while high on drugs. Since he had been forced to take the drugs by mob members, Carrie insisted he was innocent.
The baby is born and Mid-Nite pulls them to safety. Carries says she doesn't know what to name the child and Mid-Nite offers the name, "Katherine."
