Courtney awakens in an abandoned warehouse with Arthur Pemberton standing over her. One of Pemberton's men tells Arthur that they are being attacked by Johnny Sorrow's Injustice Society. Pemberton orders his men to hold their ground while he gets his mechanized battle armor. As for the JSA, Rex calibrates the holo-emitters and activates Roxy who could help the team locate Star Girl. When she gains sentience, Roxy comes off as a juvenile artificial intelligence with an odd sense of humor. Roxy analyzes the attack in New York with the Soviets and the attack today. She manages to decrypt the radio transmissions from Pemberton's telemetry uplink from both incidents and pinpoints another similar signal coming from a warehouse in Pittsburgh.

The team arrives just as Sorrow begins his assault on Pemberton's Strike Force. Wildcat deals with Tigress while King Chimera contends with the Wizard and Hourman takes on the Geomancer. Power Girl chases after Killer Wasp until she is attacked by Pemberton with his mechanized battle suit. Star Girl manages to free herself by mentally calling out to the Cosmic Staff and the staff disintegrates her bonds. Star Girl gets involved in the fight when Shiv confronts her.

Sorrow cries out to Pemberton and tells him that he is willing to accept Arthur's new terms if the Strike Force focuses their attention on the JSA. Pemberton agrees to Sorrow's new deal and orders his Strike Force to attack the JSA. Judomaster saves King Chimera by drop kicking Wizard. Icicle and Cyclone square off while Pemberton tries to get Power Girl off of him by shooting Icicle. Power Girl throws Pemberton into the wall of a building and stops the bullet from going through Icicle's head then she sucker punches him. Synopsis for "The Inheritance, Part One: Staff of Legends"

In the fishing village of Patras, the villagers had to defend themselves from the Amazonian forces of Leuca during the Ionian Revolt. Captain Akikos orders the women and children to head to the forest while his men make their stand at the old bridge. The oracle of Corinth had foreseen this invasion so he sent an emissary to deliver the Tachophixyl, Hermes' caduceus staff, to Captain Akikos. The emissary used Hermes' staff to run as fast as lightening from Corinth to Patras because the cities were thirty kilometers apart.

Akikos tries to reason with the Leucan general Timo and find out what provoked this assault. Timo spoke a foreign language unknown to Akikos. The emissary arrives with the staff and delivers a message from the oracle to Akikos. Akikos relays the message in Timo's tongue and she tells her warriors to stand down. Timo had attacked because she was under the assumption that Patras had kidnapped her sister Kyee. Akikos informed Timo that Kyee has taken up residence in the temple of Pallas. Afterwards, Akikos and Timo married thus uniting their people.

In the present day, Jesse Chambers recites this story to Rick Tyler during their stay in Istanbul. Rick figures this would explain the Speed Force fixation that Jesse's dad had. Jesse's father was obsessed with finding Hermes' staff. Jesse got a lead about the staff and needed Rick's help. A man named Grunstrasse was selling a journal of 18th century English cleric who came into possession of the Tachophixyl. The heroes enter Grunstrasse's office but only to find Mr. Grunstrasse and his assistant Claude Regen dead. They also discover Icicle and Tigress going through Grunstrasse's library.

Both heroes figure that the villains killed Grunstrasse and his assistant before they could sell the journal. Icicle tries to talk some sense into the heroes by explaining to them that they were Grunstrasse's buyers for the journal. Icicle's foreign contact Christoff Fazi had set up the meeting between Grunstrasse and them. Icicle and Tigress brought Grunstrasse's requested compensation in order to purchase the journal but Icicle had a feeling that another interested party would follow them to Istanbul. Jesse backs off of Icicle when Rick finds hotel reservations in Venice for a Peter Blue. Rick decides to let Icicle and Tigress go while he calls the embassy about what happened in Grunstrasse's office. Jesse heads to the airport to hunt down Peter Blue.
