Synopsis for "Power Trip, Part III of IV"
The Huntress is fighting the villain known as Houngan in Gotham City. She delivers a crushing kick to him that knocks him off of a balcony. Houngan's comrade in the Brotherhood of Evil, Plasmus, arrives and melts the end of her crossbow with his acid touch. Power Girl arrives and plows through Plasmus, cutting him in half. After the fight, Power Girl seems troubled and wants to confide in the Huntress. The Huntress doesn't understand why Power Girl would come to her – they know so little of one another. Power Girl is at a loss to explain why she felt the need to confide in the Huntress.
In Kansas City, Missouri, Director Bones and several Checkmate agents recover Kara's space ship from S.T.A.R. Labs. The Justice Society are present and question Director Bones' motives. The ship opens up and a ring is discovered. The ring quickly transforms into the Medusa Mask of the Psycho Pirate. Psycho Pirate appears and uses his emotion-controlling powers to force the JSA to fight Checkmate.
Back in Gotham City, numerous super-villains begin to attack the Huntress and Power Girl. The Huntress doesn't see anything, but Power Girl dives into the fight. Each new adversary that appears claims to know the truth of Power Girl's origin. The Crime Syndicate of Amerika claims that she came from the Antimatter Universe, while the Kryptonian versions of Nightwing and Flamebird state that she is in fact Kryptonian and related to them. Even Superman and Wonder Woman from an alternate timeline come and claim Power Girl as their daughter. Captain Marvel arrives and claims parentage over Power Girl. Even the Phantom Zone criminals show up and claim that Kara is a Phantom Zone refugee. Power Girl forces all of the phantasms out of her mind, until only one foe is left standing – the Psycho-Pirate. Psycho-Pirate captures Power Girl and then reports back to his true master, Lex Luthor. As Power Girl regains consciousness, she finds herself manipulated by Psycho-Pirate, who tells her, "Worlds lived... worlds died... but you survived!"

- Events from the Power Trip storyline tangentially lead into the upcoming Infinite Crisis event.
- The Crime Syndicate of Amerika, Nightwing and Flamebird, and others that appear in this issue are actually just psychic manifestations created by the Psycho-Pirate.
- Power Girl feels a connection to the Huntress because a part of her psyche recalls her friendship with the Pre-Crisis Huntress, Helena Wayne. Power Girl and the Huntress were both members of the bronze age Justice Society of America and reserve members of Infinity, Inc. Huntress died during the Crisis on Infinite Earths and has been removed from modern continuity. Funeral services for her were held in the Last Days of the Justice Society Special #1.
- The original Flamebird and Nightwing were aliases used by the pre-Crisis versions of Superman and Jimmy Olsen during a special undercover mission to Kandor.
- In this issue, Superman and Wonder Woman are futuristic versions of the current Superboy and Wonder Girl. Superboy is wearing a classic Kal-El Superboy costume in this issue.
- First appearance of the Phantom Zone criminal known as Ursa. Originally, this character was exclusive to the continuity of the movie, Superman II.
Trivia
- On the cover for this issue, Power Girl is seen remarking, "...so, is this a Villains United thing, or an OMAC thing?" This is in reference to the Villains United six-issue limited series, and the OMAC Project six-issue limited series, both of which are lead-ins to the upcoming Infinite Crisis crossover event. On the second printing cover, the text is changed to jokingly reflect that the issue is a reprint.
- Psycho-Pirate told Power Girl, "Worlds lived... worlds died... but you survived!" This is a reference to his famous quote in Crisis on Infinite Earths #12: "Worlds lived, worlds died. Nothing will ever be the same."
